Francois
Bel

Nurtured by Graffiti and Street Art culture — from which he draws a language of repetition and variation — François Bel also aligns himself with the movements of New Realism, Dadaism, and Pop Art. Following the spirit of Duchamp’s readymades, he transforms everyday objects, offering renewed and often critical perspectives on the familiar.
In both his installations and sculptures, Bel explores the tension between containment and liberation, reflecting on the individualism and materialism that shape contemporary society.
His life-size Big Bang works, suspended in acrylic glass, freeze the instant of an explosion, projecting viewers into the abyss of passing time — time that burns, erodes, and ultimately outlasts us. A true composer of decomposition, he uses objects and raw materials as the fertile ground from which his creations emerge.
In an era where everything accelerates, Bel crystallizes a universal desire to pause time, inviting contemplation and deeper exploration. His sculptures, oscillating between fascination and frustration, serve as mirrors of our age, capturing collective anger and unrest shaped by economic, cultural, social, and political forces.
François Bel currently lives and works in southwestern France.
